Refund & Reprint Policy
The Great Recap · Last updated: October 8, 2026
In short: You control what goes in your book and you approve the proof before we print. We don’t refund because of story, photos, AI style, or other content choices. We do stand behind fulfillment: if your book never arrives, arrives badly damaged in transit, or has a clear manufacturing defect, contact us and we will make it right — usually with a free reprint first.
This policy explains refunds and reprints for printed recap books ordered through thegreatrecap.com. It supplements our Terms of Use (especially Sections 8 and 9). If there is a conflict, the Terms govern except where mandatory consumer law requires otherwise.
1. Summary
- Creator-controlled content — You (and guests you invite) choose photos, comments, and edits. You review a digital proof before printing. Content you approved is not grounds for a refund.
- Fulfillment problems — If the physical book was never delivered, was lost in transit after we shipped it, arrived with serious shipping damage, or has a material manufacturing defect, we will help — typically by reprinting or replacing, and in appropriate cases by refunding the affected book.
- Talk to us first — Email hello@thegreatrecap.com before opening a payment-card dispute. We resolve most shipping and quality issues quickly when we can see tracking and photos.
2. How orders work
The preview and proof steps exist so you can see what will print. When you approve a proof, confirm print, or complete checkout after reviewing the book, you accept the content and layout as shown — including text, photos, cover art, names, dates, cropping, and page order. Small differences between screen and printed paper (color, brightness, texture) are normal for custom print and are not defects.
Each printed book is made to order for you. Once production starts after your approval, we cannot resell it to someone else.
3. What we don’t refund
Except where mandatory law says otherwise, we do not offer refunds or credits for:
- Dislike of the story, tone, humor, captions, or narrative, including AI-assisted drafts you kept or edited;
- Dislike of cover art, illustration style, or likeness you saw on the proof and approved;
- Who appears or does not appear in the book, photo selection, or guest contributions you allowed;
- Spelling, names, or dates you entered or approved on the proof;
- Normal print variation (slight color shift, trim variance, benign speck or edge imperfection that does not make the book unreadable);
- Damage after delivery (handling, storage, gifting, or use by you or a recipient);
- Failed delivery because of an incorrect or incomplete address, a recipient who refused the package, or customs/import delays or fees;
- Unused digital work (a recap you never finished or never ordered in print);
- Change of mind after you approved the proof or after production began.
Disputes among family members, guests, or people depicted in a book are between those parties. The Great Recap is not responsible for the creative choices you authorize, as described in the Terms.
4. Lost, damaged, or defective books
We want every customer to receive a book that matches the approved proof and is physically well made. This section covers fulfillment and manufacturing, not creative content.
4.1 Never received or lost in transit
If tracking shows no delivery, or the carrier confirms loss, contact us within 30 days of the estimated delivery window shown in your order email (or within 30 days after the tracking “delivered” date if you believe delivery is wrong). We may ask you to confirm the shipping address and wait briefly while we or the carrier investigate. If the book is confirmed lost or undeliverable through no fault of yours, we will reprint and reship or refund the purchase price for that book, at our choice unless mandatory law requires a particular remedy.
4.2 Damaged in shipping
If the package arrives with clear transit damage (crushed cover, torn pages, binding broken from impact, water damage from shipping), contact us within 30 days of delivery with:
- your order number or recap link;
- photos of the outer packaging, shipping label, and damage to the book;
- a brief description of what arrived.
We will usually send a replacement reprint at no charge once we verify the issue. Keep the damaged book and packaging until we confirm whether the carrier requires them.
4.3 Manufacturing defects
If the book was delivered but has a material manufacturing defect — for example, missing or blank pages, pages bound out of order, severe binding failure, smeared or unreadable print on multiple pages compared with your approved proof — contact us within 30 days of delivery with photos. We may reprint, replace, or refund the affected copy. Minor imperfections that do not materially affect reading or durability are not defects.
4.4 Wrong book or duplicate charge
If we or our printer clearly shipped the wrong title/edition to you, or you were charged twice for the same printed order, contact us promptly. We will correct the error (reprint, reship, or refund the erroneous charge as appropriate).
5. How to request help
Email hello@thegreatrecap.com from the address used on the order if possible. Include:
- Order number, recap slug, or checkout receipt;
- Shipping name and address;
- Whether the issue is non-delivery, shipping damage, or a manufacturing defect;
- Photos and tracking details (required for damage and defect claims).
We aim to acknowledge fulfillment issues within a few business days. Complex carrier investigations can take longer; we will keep you updated.
6. Reprint, replacement, or refund
For eligible fulfillment issues, our preferred remedy is a free reprint and reshipment to the same or corrected address. That fixes the problem for most customers without unnecessary delays.
We may offer a partial or full refund of the price paid for the affected printed book (excluding shipping if the book was delivered and only content is at issue — which we do not refund) when:
- a reprint is not possible in a reasonable time;
- you already received a reprint and the fulfillment issue persists;
- the book was never produced or shipped and we cancel the order; or
- we agree a refund is the fairest solution in the circumstances.
Refunds, when issued, go to the original payment method when possible. Processing time depends on your bank or card issuer.
Shipping charges are refunded only when the book was not delivered or we cancel an unprinted order. We do not refund shipping on content-only disputes.
7. Payment-card disputes
If you contact your bank or card company to reverse a charge without giving us a reasonable chance to resolve the issue first, we may suspend the related account, contest the dispute with proof of proof approval, tracking, and delivery, and decline future orders tied to abusive chargebacks.
We take fulfillment problems seriously. Most issues are resolved faster by email than through a dispute that freezes funds for weeks.
8. Mandatory consumer rights
Nothing in this policy limits rights you cannot waive under applicable law.
- European Union / United Kingdom / similar laws: Distance-selling rules may give a withdrawal period for some purchases. Customized and personalized goods (books made from your photos and text, approved by you before production) are often exempt from the right of withdrawal once production has begun with your express consent. Where a withdrawal right applies and has not been lost, we will honor it as required.
- United States and other regions: Some states provide additional remedies for defective goods or misleading sales. This policy is not a complete statement of those rights.
If you believe mandatory law entitles you to a remedy we have not offered, explain your situation and jurisdiction in your email. We will respond in good faith.
